TGS 09: Dead Rising’s Frank West Joins Cast of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

by Jeff Marchiafava on Sep 24, 2009 at 08:56 AM

Capcom’s upcoming crossover fighter Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Ultimate All-Stars already contains a huge cast of characters from such disparate franchises as Street Fighter, Mega Man, Lost Planet, Viewtiful Joe, and…a whole bunch of Tatsunoko Productions-based anime characters that we’ve barely heard of. With a cast that massive, what could one more addition hurt?

Capcom has announced that Dead Rising protagonist Frank West will be available as a new playable character in the North American release of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. West has a load of his signature moves from his own game that he can employ here, including an assist that temporarily stuns his victims. He’s also able to summon shopping carts that speed onto the screen, knocking opponents down or use a few of his famed grappling moves. What sets him apart from other characters in the roster, however, is his ability to summon zombies. Once they appear, they’ll attack anyone who gets close. They can drop from above, appear from behind or in front of the player.

His supers include one where he plops a Servebot head onto his victim, using his now-stunned body to ram through a crowd of zombies before slamming him into the ground. Another has him in his ill-fitting Mega-Man outfit, blasting his foes into submission with his Real Mega Buster. (Looks like TvC’s version of Frank was a Zombie Genocider, too…)

You’ll be able to play as West, Viewtiful Joe, and a ton of other colorful characters when Tatsunoko vs. Capcom releases on the Wii on January 26, 2010.
