New DJ Heroes Cut Chemist and J. Period Enter Fray

by Annette Gonzalez on Sep 17, 2009 at 11:09 AM

The talent list for Activision's upcoming DJ Hero is swelling by the day. The turntable-based music rhythm is receiving new mixes from esteemed sultans of scratch J.Period and Cut Chemist. The new DJs join late DJ AM, DJ Grandmaster Flash, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Shadow, DJ Z-Trip, The Scratch Perverts and DJ Yoda to compile a staggering 93-mix song list.

Cut Chemist is the founding member of Jurassic 5, a Grammy award winning artist. His contribution is a mix featuring "unreleased music from one of the biggest bands in the world," according to Activision's press release. The other new DJ, J.Period, has two fresh tracks to contribute:

  • Q-Tip “Good Thang” vs. Billy Squier “Big Beat”
  • Gang Starr “Just to Get a Rep” vs. Mobb Deep “Shook Ones, Part 2"

Even though Activision has been able to score a solid track list with incredible mash-ups, it will be interesting to see if that's enough for consumers to fork over the scratch to buy the game and expensive peripheral.
