Konami Introduces First DSi Ware Title: Reflection

by Annette Gonzalez on Sep 16, 2009 at 10:04 AM

While we first spied this small gem first at GamesCom, Konami’s upcoming DSiWare title Reflection was officially announced this morning. In truth, we only stumbled across the unimposing title while in line to check out some of Konami’s more touted wares, but we’re glad it caught our attention.

Reflection, a quirky twist on the platform and puzzle genres, puts you in the boots of Kirra, an adventurer who is tasked with retrieving a mystical mirror. Unfortunately for Kirra (and the world) the mirror slips from her grasp and shatters into pieces, breaking the bonds of reality as a result. Now the world is split in half, cleverly represented by the handheld’s dual screens. Kirra isn't unscathed by the event, now cleaved into a good and evil self. Retrieving the broken pieces of the mirror appears to be the only way for Kirra to set things right.

The dual screens must be paid attention in tandem, as the bottom is a skewed reflection of the top. One set of controls navigates good and evil Kirra through the levels, but obstacles, platforms and pitfalls aren’t the same between the fractured worlds. This means Kirra may appear to floating on the top screen, but in reality is suspended by a platform on the bottom. An invisible wall on the bottom screen may confuse the player, until they look at the top screen and realize a scalable cliff blocks their path.

Currently in development by Intrinsic Games, Reflection will unfold via forests, cities and castles until Kirra picks up the pieces of the broken object and confronts her alter ego. Reflection is slated to debut fall 2009.
