Breaking Down Destiny 2's New Features In Screenshots

by Suriel Vazquez on May 18, 2017 at 01:09 PM

Bungie revealed the first bits of gameplay for Destiny 2 earlier today via livestream, showing off the changes to classes, gear, and the game’s reworked single-player structure. It’s a lot to take in, and you can get the full breakdown here.

It’s also nice to look at some cool screenshots, so we’ve plucked out the best screens from the new reveal to show off Destiny 2's look, as well as offer a brief look at all the new locations, gear, and class abilities in the sequel.

Story
The story mission shown off in the reveal is called “Homecoming,” and has your Guardian returning to The Last City in the midst of its destruction. The new villain, Ghaul, takes the Light away from the Guardians, along with most of their prized gear.

Classes
Destiny’s classes aren’t going anywhere, but they are getting some changes. The Warlock's new Dawnblade subclass uses a sword during their super, the Hunter’s Arcstrider subclass will use a lance instead of a knife, and the Titan still has a shield, though the Sentinel has a very different one compared to the Defender's.

Gear
The reveal also showed off a number of interesting bits of gear. Some highlights: A minigun, fiery exotics, shiny pistols, and grenade launchers.

PvP
The new multiplayer mode, Countdown, has players playing offense and defense around an objective in short rounds. You can also see some of the new class abilities put to work.

Strike
The revealed Strike, “The Inverted Spire” has a team of Guardians facing off against the Cabal and the Vex, who are not on friendly terms with each other.

Environments
One of the things that brings so many people to Destiny is its evocative art direction. Shining and mysterious alien architecture intermingles with relatively mundane human engineering in ways to makes Destiny feel both familiar and intriguing, and Destiny 2 looks to continue that trend.
