Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (May 19, 2016)

by Game Informer Editorial on May 19, 2016 at 06:00 AM

Uncharted 4 and Doom took up a lot of inches in this week's blog section, but there are plenty of other good reads to dive into.

Community Blogs For May 12 – May 18:

Community Question: The Obscurity of "Four"
Jonathan Harrison has started a new community feature that you all should check out. I won't spoil it, so head there, read it, and leave some comments!

When You Just Can't "Click" With A Developer
Rebekah Lang just does not connect with Naughty Dog games. Any of them. She doesn't write that the games are bad, it is just a preference in style, writing, and substance that doesn't seem to do it for her. I'm the same way with some other popular developers and series, so I get it. I'm looking at you, FIFA.

Top 10 Greatest Games on Xbox 360...
StarterPack is going back in time a bit by looking at 10 classics on the Xbox 360. This list will definitely be divisive, but check it out, write what your favorites are in the comments, and maybe boot up the old 360 to relive them.

The Beginning of the End: A Photo Mode Recap of Uncharted 4's First Hours
Kyle Wadsworth wrote a lot of copy for this blog, but there's another reason to check it out: the photographs. Uncharted 4 is an unbelievably beautiful game. This series was pretty when I enjoyed the first one two years ago, and it's only gotten better. Enjoy the eye candy.

MightyMagikarp's Super Awesome Pokemon Starter Ranking List
While MightyMagikarp gets this all wrong with Bulbasaur and its evolutions not at numero uno (I kid!), this is quite the extensive look at starter Pokemon spurred on by the unveiling of the new starters that will invade our Pokeballs soon. One more thing: grass starters for life.

A Farewell to Spyro
Haley Shipley really enjoyed Spyro's early adventures. The games helped her figure out she could be a solo gamer, but also allowed her to game with her dad (and learn how to tell little lies to her brother). While Spyro has seen better days, at least we will always have our memories of the purple dragon's PlayStation years.

Community Writing Challenge: Dealing With Game Series Closures
GerardoExber's Capcom-heavy trio of games that he'd like to see return from the dead are all great ones. Dino Crisis should come back and adhere to the rumored styling of Resident Evil 7. As far as Onimusha goes, I'd like to see that return to its roots, and I would like more Mega Man games – especially another entry in the Command Mission series.

Community Reviews:

Retro Review: DOOM 3
With so many reviews on Uncharted 4 and the latest Doom game, it was interesting to see a retro one pop up by GerardoExber. Only the fourth FPS he's played, Gerardo gives it high marks. It's still one of my favorite FPS games, and now is a good time to go back and replay it, or try it out for the first time.

Community Writing Challenge:

What makes a game satisfying for you? Is it completing an 80-hour saga? What about collecting each and every achievement? Or is it just playing with buddies on the couch or online? Share with us your stories of the most satisfying aspects of gaming.

Community Playdate:
