Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (February 25, 2016)

by Game Informer Editorial on Feb 25, 2016 at 05:00 AM

There's a good dose of blogs in this week's edition to help you get through the end of the week and into the weekend. Please give them all a read and consider writing one yourself. Now let's get to it.

Community Blogs For February 18 – February 24:

Confusion
Longtime blogger Rebekah Lang gives readers a look into her life pursuing games writing, and just how difficult that has been. And then she admits that it may not be for her after all. Writing is hard. Reporting and writing is hard. Video game, sports writing, and feature writing are all hard. My advice is to never give up. However, if you find another calling, then roll with it. Hopefully it's in this wonderful field you love.

The Ways In Which My Favorite Games Are Terrible
Will Watson isn't afraid to admit that some of his games have terrible flaws. Look a bit closer at your favorite games and you'll find some things wrong with them. And don't strike out Chrono Trigger in your blog; that game is indeed perfect.

Weekend At MAGfest (2016 Edition)
Arkayde went to a music and gaming fest, which sounds pretty darn cool. This is the first time our blogger has gone to the event in two years, and she had a great time. For the first time ever, she was even able to play the very first game she ever played, Doom on 32X, but on PC. Oh, and Keiji Inafune made an appearance. I'm jealous.

"Damsels" of Zelda 101: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Student Haley Shipley is back with another iteration of her series looking at women in the Zelda series. She makes some great observations in this post, especially about how tough and magnificent Impa is.

The Top 10 Games I Most Want Localized
Justin Mikos dives into the world of localization. Specifically, what deserves to be translated into English. Pay attention, Xseed. And yes, of course Mother 3 is on here. I'd like to see Goemon on DS and Front Mission 5 from the PS2. Please, Square? PLEASE.

Writing Challenge Responses:

Community Writing Challenge: 3 Games That Deserve To Be Called Classics
GerardoExber heeded the call of the weekly writing challenge, calling out three games for classic status. I...was a bit surprised. But the more I read the more I agreed with him; these three titles are indeed some fine games.

Community Reviews:

Street Fighter V Review – Where's the content?
When edwinjoe450 booted up the latest brawler from Capcom, the pugilist was ready for some good throw downs. But...there isn't much there. Sure, the gameplay is pretty solid, and multiplayer is a blast, but there is nothing for casual or solo fans. Maybe less time spent on Ryu's beard, Capcom, and more time spent on the story mode?

Final Fantasy IV (Advance) Review – Advancing the JRPG Genre
TheDarkestLink takes us back in time to review one of Square's classics. The tale of Cecil the dark knight is one of the best from the JRPG genre, and our blogger takes a look at the game and the series overall throughout the years.

Community Writing Challenge:

Who are the unsung characters in video games? My vote goes to Toad. He's a stalwart in Mario adventures. Heck, even Luigi accepts living in the shadows of his brother in order to help save the world. Write about the scene stealers or unsung heroes of video game sagas that don't get the love they deserve. One day you'll remember your bazooka, Toad.

Community Playdate:

No playdate this week as I will be visiting the homeland (Wisconsin) for a wedding.

I hope you enjoy the blogs! Please contact me via my Game Informer page or on Twitter at @LouisGarcia12 with any blog news or playdate suggestions.
