Thanks to the tireless efforts of the talented Game Informer community, rounding up a collection of excellent posts for this week's Blog Herding was easier than ever. Time to get reading!
Community Blogs For February 4 – February 10:
The
Gaming Romances That Stick With You
Games writing may not always succeed in reaching greatness, but Craigaleg is
convinced that the tales told in games have had some romances that will stick
with not only him, but many gamers for years to come. And I would agree. I
still think about some of these characters and hope Drake and Elena find
themselves together in the next Uncharted game.
Can
A Game Be Too Big?
Rebekah Lang asks a very good question: Can a video game world be too darn large?
Lang seems to be alright with a longer adventure. For me, I love long
adventures, but not actually playing them...because I just don't have that kind
of time anymore. After nearly two months, I'm about six hours into Knights of
the Old Republic II.
What
I Want From The Future Of Smash Bros.
Justin Mikos has some ideas on where Nintendo's iconic brawler should go to next. One unique
and important view is that instead of adding new ideas, developers should
refine what's already in the series to create some truly excellent modes. Me?
I'd just want to see the same game launched on a new system, with Nintendo
patching it here and there while adding new character and stage DLC.
"Damsels"
of Zelda 101: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Let's get something out of the way: Haley Shipley has written a very long blog.
But it's a tremendous blog. It's also one that really digs into things from A
Link to the Past that I'm sure not many people even think about. It's a good
read, and I highly recommend everyone set aside time to peruse it.
How
Being A Gamer Has Helped Me As A Language Student
If you told me GerardoExber's first language wasn't English, I'd call you a
liar. Except, you know, I can't call the man a liar when he's writing blogs
about how his hobby helped him learn the language. I wish I could pick up
Japanese when playing imported Front Mission and Mystical Ninja games like our
blogger picked up English.

Writing Challenge: The Game I've Connected The Most With
GerardoExber finds similarities between his life and the lives of those in
Persona 4. The game does feature a younger entourage, school, and plenty of
socializing, so this makes sense. And really, many of us have had that dirty
part-time job we needed to buy some extra video games.

Writing Challenge: Relating to Firewatch
Cru Hunter has yet to play Firewatch, but his life experiences instantly helped
him form a bond with the game's story. His experience isn't about a failed
marriage, but a wildfire in the desert. It's full of beauty, and Cru was full
of awe.

Writing Challenge: The Memories...
StarterPack shares some very personal stories, such as how shooting cans with
his uncle – the last thing he did before his uncle passed away – is something
he remembers when shooting cans in video games. There are some more tales in
this blog, but you'll have to check it out to find out what they are.
Community Writing Challenge:
What's one thing about gaming that's always baffled you? Like, why do I have to press start or a button to get my game going? Or, why can I not just give my fallen comrades a Phoenix Down outside of battle? Why is a melee attack as powerful as a medium-range shotgun blast? What has baffled you?
Community Playdate:
We won't have a playdate this weekend, but a big thanks to everyone who came out for Helldivers and Rocket League. Check back next week for another opportunity to join the community in some online gaming.
I hope you enjoy the blogs! Please contact me via my Game Informer page or on Twitter at @LouisGarcia12 with any blog news or playdate suggestions.
