Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (January 21, 2016)

by Game Informer Editorial on Jan 21, 2016 at 06:33 AM

Assassin's Creed seemed to dominate this week's blogs, but we're okay with that. Read on for another collection of excellent blogs from the community.

Community Blogs For January 14 – January 20:

My Companion In Time: The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Power blogger GerardoExber breaks hearts immediately by telling us he traded away his Resident Evil 2 cartridge, but he saves us from heartache: He used the trade to get Ocarina of Time. It's safe to say this game means more to Gerardo than most of us – and I absolutely adore Link.

Where Do You Want to See Assassin's Creed Go Next?
Jojonny17 writes a short but sweet blog that asks a simple question: Where does this heralded series go next? If I'm to buy the next game, the series needs to visit feudal-era Japan. Where do you want to see the series go?

The Importance Of Video Game Re-Releases
GerardoExber had one last blog this week that needed to be featured, mostly because it's on such a divisive issue. The blogger likes being able to enjoy games he'd not be able play to due to not owning the original consoles. Some people don't like re-releases, saying it makes gaming stale. My opinion? I like them if they're done well. If not, I'll just replay my original version.

5 Things I Want to See in Assassin's Creed Empire
Whirz writes his wish list of things he'd love to see in the new game set in Egypt. It all makes sense, even to me, and I've barely played the series (I did swashbuckle for a bit and enjoyed it very much). I'm especially interested in where the story could go, and also how the different time periods can be used for maximum enjoyment. I mean...first-person office wandering is only so interesting.

Writing Challenge Responses:

Community Writing Challenge: How gaming has changed me!
Blogger mzCHaNaNDLERbong began like many of us: on the NES. In the good ol' days it was all about stimulation of the brain through interactive media. Gaming is a passion, but also just pretty darn fun. This "gaming 101" is a read that will put a smile on your face.

Community Writing Challenge: How Gaming Has Changed Me
GerardoExber has hinted at how gaming has changed him in the past when it comes to his English skills. But this blog dives a little deeper into how the medium has made Gerardo who he is. Video games are a getaway from problems, and a way our blogger became more open-minded.

How Video Games Helped Me in Leadership
I'm not sure if Craigaleg meant for this blog to be a writing challenge response, but bettering oneself in leadership via video games seems to fit the bill. Like some of my friends, our daring blogger found his leadership capabilities in World of Warcraft. From there his skill to lead men and women into battle would only grow.

Community Reviews:

Review: Child of Light
GreenePanda21 gives us his opinion on Child of Light, a game that briefly captivated the gaming world. He gives it a staggering 9 out of 10, explaining that it's just a wonderfully crafted game. It's another one I'm pushing toward the top of my list of games to play.

Community Writing Challenge:

What's the best way to traverse a gaming world? I'm a big fan of trekking on foot so I can see the sights, but swinging around like Spider-Man or jumping around like a superhero in Crackdown brings me a lot of joy (especially when I can do it with another player...and then launch said player off of a skyscraper). Share your favorite way to travel, why, and any other stories born from that style of travel. After all, it's all about the journey and not the destination.

Community Playdate:

These are coming back next week! Full details then, but expect to start jumping in to Rocket League (PS4), Destiny (PS4), and Splatoon.

I hope you enjoy the blogs! Please contact me via my Game Informer page or on Twitter at @LouisGarcia12 with any blog news or playdate suggestions.
