Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (October 8, 2015)

by Game Informer Editorial on Oct 08, 2015 at 10:06 AM

It's been a busy week in the blog world. From writers who played a ton of classics, to those ruminating on one of last generation's greatest games, Blog Herding has it all. So hunker down and dig in.

Community Blogs For October 1 – October 7:

My Top 10 Favorite PS2 Games
Justin Mikos takes us way back to a time when Sony was still relatively new to the gaming scene. What he chooses for his favorite games are most likely the favorites of many other gamers.

The Last of Us Gives You Two Interpretations, And They're Equally Destructive
Jonathon Garrard recently replayed The Last of Us, and couldn't help but write about his interpretations of the game. I still can't think about the game's ending without my heart racing and mind stuttering over what it all means for humanity.

Backlog Blog #16: Rock Band 4 – More Of The Same Isn't Always A Bad Thing
ZTribal used to thrash with the best of them. And now he can see himself doing it again with the latest Rock Band game. I'm not sure I can ever go back to playing it without my bandmates, but it sounds like a return to form.

The Gaming Parent: An Update 2 Years In The Making
TOGNick's life changed when he became a father. Here we get a first-hand look of his gaming habits before his child was born, and what it's like now. It's not so bad.

Mario Maker Was A Mistake
Heropon is ready to stoke the fires of madness by declaring Mario Maker a mistake. But read a bit more and he explains that it's just the actual "playing" of the game that he finds annoying. He says, "It's not a mistake because it's bad. It's a mistake because it's a tool that isn't appreciated."

The Top Ten Dumbest Legend Of Zelda Items
MightyMagikarp has a bone to pick with some of the items Link uses in his adventures. This list must be great, though, because I barely remember any of the items listed. And people in the comments also seem to hate the Spirit Flute.

Top 5 Games You Probably Don't Remember...
StarterPack's list is an interesting one, but I do happen to remember nearly all of the games on it. Halo Wars was a gaming staple for a friend and me during college, and we still play it today.

Community Reviews:

Shadow Of The Colossus Review
You may think that everyone has written all there is to write about Shadow, but Canuckian-Carson shows that there is still more words to dedicate to the emotion the game invokes. For whatever reasons, you guys were digging PlayStation 2 games this past week.

Samurai Warriors 4-II And Senran Kagura Deep Crimson Double Review
Enuo reviews two very – and we mean "very" in its strongest usage – different games. They both have action-packed sword fights, but only one comes out on top.

Community Writing Challenge:

What's something – whether a setting, genre, or gameplay style – you'd like games to visit? I've always wanted an open-world game set in Feudal-era Japan, where I can choose to farm for 40 hours and "beat" the game, or go down in a blaze of sword-slashing glory. I'd also love to see some games set in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, or maybe the bluffs found in the southern part of the state. What would you like to see done for the first time, or maybe better, in games?

Writing Challenge Responses:

Community Writing Challenge: My Gaming Schedule
GerardoExber has a messy gaming schedule, but the important thing is that he's playing games. What is interesting is how he finds time to play in the morning on weekdays, and how he utilizes a website to get the most bang for his buck when trying to complete his backlog.

Community Playdate:

No playdate this weekend; I still don't have any video game consoles hooked up in my new place, and have been super busy! Soon, G.I. community.

I hope you enjoy the blogs! Please contact me via my Game Informer page or on Twitter at @LouisGarcia12 with any blog news or playdate suggestions.
