Replay – Sonic The Hedgehog 2006

by Tim Turi on Jul 11, 2015 at 03:00 AM

The Game Informer office is pretty secure. Multiple layers of security doors, keys, and passwords keep us editors and our precious, expansive vault of games (locked with its own special key) safe from unwanted intrusions. Some acts of god can't be avoided, however. Such is the case when former Game Informer editor and current Giant Bomb chucklehead Dan Ryckert invades the most recent episode of Replay. I wish I could say this upsetting twist of fate was offset by a high-quality game, but sadly this week's Replay features something nearly as unsavory as Mr. Ryckert: Sonic the Hedgehog 2006.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 is considered by many to be the absolute low point of the Sega mascot's career. Erratic, touchy controls collide with an unpredictable camera, resulting in chaotic combat and platforming. The story is also an oddity, featuring unlikable characters like Silver and Shadow. Sonic also seduces a young girl. Stay tuned after the Sonic '06 nonsense as all four of us pick up the controller for a comparably queasy Sonic game from the Dreamcast era. So please join Andrew Reiner, Ben Hanson, me, and an especially raunchy Dan Ryckert as we reunite the old-school Replay crew for this special episode.
