blog herding

It was a crazy week of blogging thanks to E3. Everyone seems to have a different takeaway from the show, making this week's collection of blogs a great one. Feel free to weigh in on E3 in the comments!

Community Blogs For June 18 – June 24:

HappyDude633's top games from E3
When HappyDude633 saw a gun arm and recognized some familiar Final Fantasy tunes he became… well, one happy dude. But that's just one of the many games he wrote about in his blog detailing his favorite games from the show.

Fallout Shelter: Free to Play Done Right
Free-to-play games usually scare me away immediately, but I love Fallout, and just_another_gamer explains why Fallout Shelter is successfully using the business model. You're able to completely enjoy the game for free, so that's a win in my book.

Halo 2: A Look Back
Timothy Repasky transports us back in time to LAN parties, Halo, Mountain Dew, and pizza. I didn't play much Halo 2 via LAN back in my day, but when I did it was pretty much the same experience. Give this blog a read for a trip down Memory Lane.

My E3 2015: Logitech, Valhalla Hills, Bounty Train, Extra Life & More
It's a long read, but Kyle Wadsworth's photos and experiences from the show make for a fun blog. One highlight: the demo Kyle watched of Valhalla Hills. I had not heard of this game full of Vikings, but now I want it.

Metroid and the Sanctity of Non-Human Life
Thomas Loughney explores the themes of the Metroid games, including animal conservation, abuse of government power, and compassion. It's a great read for anyone who likes Nintendo's sci-fi series.

Sea of Thieves Already Won Me Over
Sea of Thieves had Irwin529 at pirate. He doesn't know how it will turn out, but our blogger is already excited for Rare's new game to come out. If the game lets me fully customize and explore my pirate ship I'm all in.

Writing Challenge Responses:

Community Writing Challenge: My Roller Coaster Of E3 2015
Rebekah Lang writes about this year's E3, specifically the craziness of covering the event for her personal blog. She explains how unique a challenge it is to write about the show from home, and is planning on attending next year's event. Good luck!

Community Writing Challenge: E3 Mania!
Boxcar182 gives his two cents on this year's heavy hitters: Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Overall he found the show to be a fantastic one, but did find his attention fading halfway through Nintendo's show.

Brief Thoughts on E3 and Haters
Jon_G doesn't understand why people like to declare an E3 winner every year. Every gamer likes different genres, so he says we should all be excited and not be so bitter. I agree with him, but I'm still sad we don't have a "proper" Metroid game coming to 3DS or Wii U.

Community Writing Challenge: E3 Excitement
Sam_Lincoln wasn't able to keep up with E3 as it happened but sifted through the news for this blog. His most exciting games of the show include Horizon Zero Dawn (because who doesn't like robot dinos?) and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. It's good to own a PS4.

Community Reviews:

Killzone Mercenary Review: Technically impressive, but anaemic
Gamemaniac3434 gives us some thoughts on Killzone Mercenary. He generally doesn't like the series, thinks the heroes of the game are actually the baddies, and doesn't find this entry to be more than just OK.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Review: Next Generation RPG
Refle's take on the Witcher 3 isn't a surprise: he loves it. It's one of the best role-playing games he's played in years. Even better? The side missions and non-story content is actually pretty darn good. Now if only I could beat some of my PS2 RPG backlog and then jump into this title.

Community Writing Challenge:

What's your biggest gaming mistake? Have you ever saved over a friend's 40-hours-long Final Fantasy VIII save file? Ever pass up the chance to buy Suikoden brand new for $5 at Sears? Maybe you traded in a bunch of classics to FuncoLand for a couple OK games like Quest 64 and Bloody Roar 2 (correction: Bloody Roar 2 rocks, and Quest 64 is a classic)? Let me know what your greatest gaming mistake is!

Community Playdate:

We have no playdate for this week, but feel free to send ideas for them my way. I'm also available for any cooperative games – especially Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

I hope you enjoy the blogs! Please contact me via my Game Informer page or on Twitter at @LouisGarcia12 with any blog news or playdate suggestions.
