The Pulse – Game Informer's Weekly Top 10

by Andrew Reiner on Feb 23, 2015 at 08:58 AM

The Pulse is Game Informer's weekly ranking of the hottest games according to our team. Each Monday we tally up the games with the biggest buzz based on number of editors playing and the time they put into them.

In the third week of The Pulse, most editors set aside an afternoon or night to knock out The Order: 1886. That left plenty of time for multiplayer sessions and longer RPGs and open world games. Many nights were dedicated to Evolve and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Had not so many people played The Order, Monster Hunter 4 would have soundly taken the top slot. Dan Tack and Tim Turi are busy recruiting people for daily lunchtime Monster Hunter sessions. It has a good shot at hitting number one next week. We also saw a game like Life is Strange climb to number three, but end up having no support this week. This will likely happen with most episodic games with longer gaps between release dates.

Most editors also spent some time this weekend venturing outside of new releases to play a wide selection of older games, ranging from Spyro the Dragon to Costume Quest 2.

This week's new releases include Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (something most editors are looking forward to diving into), There Came an Echo, and Dragon Ball XenoVerse. We'll see you again in seven days!

Week 3 ratings: February 15-21
1
THE ORDER: 1886
Last week: 8
Almost every editor put The Order: 1886 through the paces. Some enjoyed it. Others loathed it. To say the least, it's the talk of the office so far this week. All signs point to this being The Order's last week on the charts. If so, it goes out with a bang at the number one slot.
2
MONSTER HUNTER 4 ULTIMATE
Last week: 2
Some editors tried Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and couldn't get into it, but by and large, the majority of people that are trying it are enjoying it and are sticking with it. The play sessions at lunch, if they continue each week, will likely keep this game toward the top of the charts.
3
EVOLVE
Last week: 1
Although Evolve slipped two slots, it still has a large following of players. Groups of people are teaming up for nightly game sessions on PlayStation 4. Other editors are testing the matchmaking waters on Xbox One. All told, it looks like Evolve still has plenty of life left in it.
4
Last week: --
With hand of fate migrating off of PC onto Xbox One and PlayStation 4 last week, a handful of editors took Dan Tack's advice of giving this unique card game a shot. All of the new staffers playing it are enjoying what they've seen of the early game content and are eager to dive deeper into it.
5
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: MAJORA'S MASK
Last week: 7
A couple of additional editors picked up Majora's Mask last week, and although they aren't dedicating huge hours to it, they are having fun revisiting this classic Nintendo 64 adventure. Given how it is being played, Majora's Mask will likely stick around on the charts for a couple of more weeks.
6
DYING LIGHT
Last week: 6
Dying Light is being played by a handful of editors, but only Mike Futter and Andrew Reiner are playing together. Others are playing it on PlayStation 4 with friends, and Tim Turi is braving it alone on PC. The length of this adventure could keep it on the charts, but interest in seeing it through to the end appears to be waning by most people.
7
DESTINY
Last week: 4
The Iron Banner festivities kept Game Informer's Destiny devotees occupied for days on end. Our staffers say it's Destiny's best PvP content yet, despite there being a heavy ammo bug (which they hope is patched this week).
8
KIRBY AND THE RAINBOW CURSE
Last week: --
After a ho hum review and a uneventful Test Chamber showing, general curiosity lured a couple of editors into Kirby's newest adventure. All three people who played it said the game is "ok."
9
GRAND THEFT AUTO V
Last week: 10
Brian Shea, Andrew Reiner, and Matt Bertz played a little more Grand Theft Auto V this week, but it looks like its stay on the list may be over soon. Brian finally completed the single player game.
10
KING OF THIEVES
Last week: --
Part Super Meat Boy part dungeon designer, King of Thieves was discovered by Tim Turi and has since ended up installed on the iPhones of other editors. Tim rage-deleted the game when his gems turned up missing, but reinstalled it after realizing he didn't care that much in the end.
