Question Of The Month Reader Responses: Issue #258

by Jeff Marchiafava on Sep 09, 2014 at 06:09 AM

In issue 256, we asked readers which company they think is going to have the best holiday season. Unsurprisingly, most respondents put their faith in the companies behind this month's most anticipated blockbusters. Here are some of their responses.

The One-Two Punch:

  • I think it's pretty obvious that Activision is going to be dominating the Christmas lists this year. With Destiny and, of course, the new Call of Duty coming out later this year, there won't be any contest. However, I do hope it will be a good holiday for all, as there were many good titles that came out this year. I imagine that next year will be even bigger, with games like Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and (maybe) Uncharted 4: A Thief's End coming out, I'm sure it'll be interesting to see how well those and the many other titles do.

  • I believe that the company that will have employees driving new gold-plated Porsches is Activision for its release of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The character detail, the exoskeletons, and futuristic setting says a lot about the company’s boldness to move away from modern-day shooters.

    Dave Roman
  • Activision because Destiny + Call Of Duty = $$$ MAKING IT RAIN $$$

    Andrew Roush

Slaying The Competition:

  • I feel Ubisoft is going to have a big holiday season this year. Assassin’s Creed Unity and Far Cry 4 are two of the most anticipated games on the horizon, and they cater to different console audiences. Those who haven’t made the transition to new-gen can still play Far Cry 4, while Unity is Ubisoft’s first ever new-gen only game. In a packed holiday season, I believe those two games stand out, and I know I can’t wait for Unity on PS4.

    Sammy Caloras
  • I personally think Ubisoft will have a very good holiday year, and all-around year in general. It seems they have an amazing plethora of games coming out this year such as Assassin’s Creed Unity and The Crew, and those are just two. Assassin's Creed Unity has amazing graphics, an amazing story, and amazing mechanics, but it’s a good thing I have an Xbox One. The Crew is an open-world racing game. Open world, and racing, two ideas many people didn’t think of combining, but from the looks of it, those two polar opposites will make a great game. Don’t worry, Ubisoft, I love you enough to spend all my money on you.

  • Ubisoft...they own everything. They have two Assassin's Creed titles coming out this year plus Far Cry 4.

A Date With Destiny:

  • I think Bungie is going to have a splendid holiday season. There has been loads of hype for their new IP, and with an entirely new white PS4 bundled with their September release, not to mention the Collector’s Edition that was recently revealed, Bungie is going to have a wicked time. And I have to say, I’m going to party along with them with my white PS4!

    Lydia Chamberlain
  • Hands down, Bungie. Even though Destiny is coming out in September, they will be riding that train all the way through to 2015 and beyond. Not to mention 343 Studios is putting out three of their original games together in a single package.

Delayed Enjoyment:

  • My vote would have to go to EA. It's hard to forget about games like Call Of Duty or Far Cry 4, but with a new Battlefield and Dragon Age: Inquisition coming, I think they'll surpass the others. Battlefield is always a fan favorite among FPS players, and the newest Dragon Age looks to be the best RPG game I've have ever experienced. [Editor's Note: Battlefield: Hardline has been delayed until 2015.]

    Robert A.

Possibly Partisan:

  • Nintendo…just a gut feeling. Watch and witness.

    Moises Cossio
  • I think Sony will; they're really hitting their groove and I see this continuing through the holidays.

    Robert Lopez

The Holiday Spirit:

  • I honestly hope that all three console manufacturers have an amazing holiday. So far the stiff competition has me fighting over which system to play! Mario Kart 8 is currently in the lead, but the Last of Us Remastered is up next. Then it’s going to be a tossup between Halo: Master Chief Collection, Destiny on PS4, and Hyrule Warriors!

    Felix Diaz

Say What?:

  • I don't know why they all don't celebrate the same ones, but the obvious winners will be whoever celebrates Halloween the hardest. Costumes and candy trump all other festivities. Maybe Double Fine?
