Who Will Star In DC’s Next Superhero Game?

by Ben Reeves on Oct 18, 2011 at 10:30 AM

Comic fans are currently thrilling to Batman’s adventures in Batman: Arkham City, but the Dark Knight isn’t DC’s only superhero. Who will be the next comic character to star in their own game?

In a recent interview with the LA Times, Warner Interactive president Martin Tremblay talked about Warner’s renewed approach to the video game market and the future of the company. Tremblay also talked about how they expected big things from next year’s Hobbit game, and then dropped hints that we’d soon hear about another games staring one of DC’s Superheroes. Tremblay wouldn’t reveal which character we could expect to see on consoles next year, so we took it upon ourselves to work up a list of DC Comics heavy hitters before speculating who we thought it could be.

Superman

Aside from Batman, Superman is undeniably one of DC’s biggest properties, and he’s been dormant in games for some time. With the upcoming Superman movie, it’s kind of hard to believe that Warner Bros doesn’t have something in the works. Could someone finally figure out how to make a good Superman game?

Likelyhood: 9/10

Wonder Woman

DC’s Amazonian Princess is another big name in comics, and she hasn’t been well represented in games. It’d be nice to see another strong female staring in her own game. We say get Brian Azzarello to write the thing, because his recent Wonder Woman series has been kicking Greek butt.

Likelyhood: 7/10

Green Lantern

Sure we just received a lackluster Green Lantern game this summer, but that was based on the movie, and Green Lantern is hot right now, so DC might as well tap into that green fever with a game based on the comics. Plus, GLs intergalactic backdrop would be ripe for an epic story.

Likelyhood: 7/10

The Flash

DC’s speedster is another underutilized character who we’d love to see in a game. One problem might be representing the Flash’s speed in a way that the character feels fast, but still playable. Maybe a developer could use some kind of modified bullet time effect to get that point across.

Likelyhood: 5/10

Green Arrow

Green Arrow may not be a huge name for DC, but he’s a cool character. He’s a bit like Batman, but he dresses like Robin Hood and he has a cool beard. We’d love to mess around with his arsenal of inventive arrows. Maybe Warner could even use their Green Arrow plot from that Super Max movie that seems to be on permanent hiatus.

Likelyhood: 3/10

Aquaman

Hahaha, just kidding!

Likelyhood: fried fish out of water

Those are our picks, but what about you. Which DC characters would you like to see in their own game?
