Jurassic World Evolution Looks Quite Good On Switch

by Andrew Reiner on Oct 12, 2020 at 03:40 PM

Frontier Developments is launching Jurassic World Evolution on Switch as a "Complete Edition" on November 3. This bundle includes the core game, the DLC standalone adventures (Return to Jurassic Park and Claire's Sanctuary), and The Secrets of Dr. Wu DLC quest that adds wild dinosaur hybrids. All of the add-on dino packs and skin variants are also included. Basically, everything you can get your hands on in the PC and console versions is here, and it all looks quite good running on the Switch.

In a 40-minute demo I saw, the dino textures look a little muddied and some trees pop in as you fly over the park, but otherwise it looks like it runs quite smooth, allowing players to build the dino parks of their dreams. The one big change is that players can only have 100 dinosaurs in a park at once. Given the size of the maps, you likely will never hit this unless you are messing around in sandbox mode, but it is the one gameplay difference that you'll see when you are playing either on the go or on a TV. The font size is the same (and is said to be readable in handheld mode) and the load times looked to be clocking in around the same length as the console versions.

A Frontier spokesperson wouldn't reveal if more content is on the way for the game, both on the Switch and the other platforms, but did say that if something were added at a later date – even a bug-fix patch – it would reach the Switch version on the same day.

I enjoyed the hell out of Jurassic Park Evolution, and am eager to see how it holds up in Switch's handheld mode. You can see it in action in the video above.
