THQ Acquires The Kingdoms Of Amalur Property

by Matthew Kato on Sep 06, 2018 at 09:11 AM

THQ has announced that it has picked up the rights to Kingdoms of Amalur, which was the property created by Curt Schilling's now-defunct 38 Studios.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning came out in 2012, and was decent, but the fate of the developer itself was more infamous. 38 Studios filed for bankruptcy months after the game came out, and the studio ran afoul of the state of Rhode Island on a defaulted loan. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) even got involved, going after the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation (formerly the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation) and loan underwriter Wells Fargo for securities fraud.

In today's announced deal, THQ has also picked up Project Copernicus, an unreleased MMORPG in the game's world.
