This Week In Mobile - Clones, Gods, And Remakes
Looking to scratch that mobile game itch this week? Look no further. This week, we take a look at recently ported excellent titles that you may have missed as well as a couple of brand new titles (well, sort of) that hitch on interesting premises from past games. Skulls of the Shogun
Developer: 17-BIT
Platforms: iOS, Android, Windows Phone
Price: $4.99 (iOS, Windows Phone), $1.99 (Android)
This games has been out for some time, but is now available on a new mobile platform. Android users can now play the well-received turn-based strategy title for themselves. To see some gameplay, check out our Test Chamber from last year.
Micromon
Developer: Moga Interactive
Platforms: iOS
Price: $0.99
Let's face it: this is a Pokémon clone for your mobile phone, right down to the world exploration and battle systems. While more than likely not as robust as the king of monster catching sims, Micromon has been praised for its quality. With over 130 unique monsters and a large Pokémon-style world, you get plenty of content for a buck. Still, be wary of the in-app purchases that will no doubt accompany your journey.
Dragon Quest IV
Developer: Square Enix
Platforms: iOS, Android
Price: $14.99
With the priciest title this week, you're getting arguably the most content. Dragon Quest IV is a full-fledged console RPG that is loved and respected by many. Despite a recent silly mix-up with the title, this mobile port of the title has been embraced by fans and newcomers alike. If you've already played Dragon Quest IV, it may be worth checking out Dragon Quest VIII, also re-released on mobile recently.
Godus
Developer: 22Cans
Platforms: iOS
Price: Free
With a pedigree like Peter Molyneux's, it's difficult to not show interest in the god-sim. In Godus, Molyneux's most recent foray into the strategy genre, you take the role of a god who controls a world and must compete with other gods. It's an interesting premise and it's free (with in-app purchases, of course) so it's worth checking out.
