UPDATE: Register For Free-To-Play MechWarrior Tactics Game Today

by Phil Kollar on Feb 14, 2012 at 03:00 PM

UPDATE: We're one step closer to figuring out what this game is -- but it's a step that might cause some of you to lose interest. A reader reports that upon registering, they received a confirmation e-mail referring to MechWarrior Tactics as "an exciting new Free to Play offering from the MechWarrior universe." Thanks for the tip, ArguingBike!

ORIGINAL STORY: Fans of the long-dormant MechWarrior series of robot-battling games may have perked up upon seeing that headline. Sadly, we don't yet actually know much about what MechWarrior Tactics is, but you can sign up for it now.

The freshly-launched MechWarrior Tactics website features a countdown timer set to expire in a just over six-and-a-half days. There's also a registration form where you can enter your e-mail address and a "Commander Name," theoretically reserving the title you want to use in whatever this game ends up as.

The Escapist discovered a Facebook page for the game that unhelpfully describes it as "a brand-new MechWarrior game set in the BattleTech universe," though that page also confirms that it's being planned for the PC and should be released this year.

As far as we know MechWarrior Tactics is not connected to MechWarrior Online, which was announced last year and will use CryEngine 3.
