New MechWarrior Uses CryEngine 3

by Joe Juba on Nov 19, 2011 at 05:45 AM

The new free-to-play MechWarrior Online was announced last month, and while details are still scarce, developer Piranha Games has revealed that it will use Crytek's CryEngine 3.

Unsurprisingly, both parties involved seem to be delighted with the choice according to a press release. "Both Piranha and Crytek believe in the potential of this market and we look forward to helping them achieve their vision for an amazing game experience," says Crytek's Carl Jones. Russ Bullock of Piranha adds: "Working with CryEngine is a true pleasure."

Pleasantries aside, the real test for Piranha will be how the team takes the dormant MechWarrior license and brings it to a new generation of gamers.
