The lights are on
Toon Link isn't a clone of the more realistic looking hero. Wind Waker's champion brings a set of tools that are unique to his adventure, and we're glad to see him included in the Wii U and 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros.
With the release of Wind Waker HD, Toon Link's appearance on the roster makes sense. You can see how he'll appear on both platforms below. Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS will be out in 2014.
We've also got images of the Wii Fit Trainer and Animal Crossing Villager, Princess Peach, and a new Pilotwings stage.

YEAH!!!! He's mah boy
To be honest, I wasn't expecting this, but this is great!
I figured he would be in Smash back when they showed off the Spirit Tracks stage.
YES! Thank you, Nintendo! Toon Link is better than just a clone, and he is by far one of my favorites.
AWWWW YESSS!!!! I can't wait to play as Toon Link!
He was in the last one too. I guess, if anything, the only surprises are who DOESN'T make the cut. I'd rather know who's been left out OR show us new characters.
Sweet! I love using Toon Link.
Hang on... Peach, Olimar, and Toon Link are confirmed, but Yoshi hasn't yet? That doesn't make any sense.
He looks sooo good! I have been pretty impressed with the quality of the character models so far.
*Announcer voice* TOON LINK!!! Man. I might actually get me a Wii U when this comes out... Maybe I'll wait for one more price drop.
Awesome! Toon Link was one of my mains. I actually wasn't expecting him to return, so this is a relief.
It's nice to see a less obvious character announcement being made.
