Villager And Trainer Shown Off For Super Smash Bros. 3DS

The Wii Fit Trainer and the Animal Crossing Villager fighters from the new Super Smash Bros. were shown in their 3DS forms today.

The image of the duo appeared on the official Super Smash Bros. website as today's daily image. It's still unclear exactly how the Wii U and 3DS versions of the games will interact, which characters will be shared, and if certain characters will only appear in a single version.

Update: It has been stated by Nintendo that the character roster for both the 3DS and Wii U games should be identical, but series director Masahiro Sakurai did tell Kotaku, "We're forced into the situation where we may need to reduce some characters to a certain degree, but we're really working hard in order to include as many characters as possible." Hopefully the two games ultimately have the same character list, but it seems like there's a chance that they may not.

  • Having portable smash is going to make fighting with my friends so much easier in the commons at school. Of course we'll all probably opt for the Wii U version if it's available.

Also, it will allow my friends to play and train so that they'll actually stand a chance against me. Bwahaha!
  • I really want to find out about that Character customization, but I really like those HD visuals. Choosing is so tough.

  • Nintendo said all characters will appear on both versions. But stages will be different. 3ds version will feature stages based on handheld titles 'nintendogs','LoZ Spirit Tracks.
  • damn. the 3DS version looks great too. It may not be HD, but it sure looks pretty. It may be a bit overkill, but I'm getting both versions when they come out. I just can't pass up some Smash Bros.
  • Is this some kind of Playstation All Stars: Battle Royale rip-off?
  • If this holds up to any of the previous may be what convinces me to get back into Nintendo/handhelds, between it, Pokemon, and other games.
  • Nintendo also said you can adjust the black outline around the characters, our just get rid of it all together. I'm so excited for this game!!!

Edit: Judging by the size of her shadow, the Wii Fit Trainer should weigh about 300lbs. I'm suprised she's so fit!
  • It seems really bizarre to me that you would have the two version of these games and might not have them have the same character roster.
  • By that quote, Sakurai just means they might have to reduce the abilities of certain characters.
  • Can't wait to play this! I need to hurry up and get a 3DS or WiiU! both are going to have to good games but I don't know which system to get first

  • Atleast they're not making empty promises. They're doing their best to make each game as good as they can possibly make it. You guys did a good job on the last 3 though I hated Brawl personally. Heres to Nintendo, you keep on rocking.

  • When he says they 'may need to reduce some characters to a certain degree' all I can think of is that there's going to be clones. Like how Ganandorf is a clone of Captain Falcon, Pichu was a clone of Pikachu, Young Link and Toon Link are clones of Link, Lucas to Ness, etc. Also the one thing I want announced soon be honest...a unique name for it.
  • From what I've heard, Cross-play is planned for Smash Bros. 4, which is a pretty huge opportunity missed. It was such a snazzy system for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, but it sounds like while the rosters in SSB will be the same, the levels will not. The 3DS version's levels will feature more handheld titles and will be more slated towards a single player experience. I hope cross-play can be implemented in the future, but its a pretty big bummer they'd tease this feature with MH3U and never use it again.
  • I'm still trying to wrap my head around playing with handheld controls.
  • upto I saw the paycheck saying $5248, I did not believe friend had been actualey bringing home money in there spare time at their laptop.. there great aunt has been doing this for under 20 months and a short time ago repaid the morgage on their place and bourt a brand new Porsche 911. go to,

  • Now if only they would cut out trainer and farmboy and add more meaningful additions.
  • where the hell is everyone else?
  • *sigh* I guess I'm getting both versions...

  • I'm really not interested in a 3DS version of this. The game gets too chaotic on a big screen, trying to keep track of everything--even with the dark outlines, on the small 3DS screen just seems like it's going to be a headache. I'm sure they might find a way to make it work, I just want to be able to see it when I play it.
