Disney Infinity And Wargaming Skipping E3 In Favor Of Community Events

by Kyle Hilliard on Mar 04, 2016 at 11:29 AM

Disney Infinity and Wargaming, two otherwise disparate video game entities, now share something in common: neither have plans to attend E3.

Disney Infinity developer and publisher Avalanche Software and Disney Interactive Studios respectively recently confirmed its lack of plans with a tweet from VP of production John Vignocchi, who said in a follow-up message to Game Informer that Disney is is planning on focusing more on community events.

On Tuesday, Disney revealed it was not planing on releasing a Disney Infinity 4.0 this year. Instead, Disney will be focused on lending additional support to Disney Infinity 3.0.

Wargaming, which typically has a very large presence at E3 to promote its assorted Word of franchises, confirmed to VentureBeat it would also not be attending. With a similar sentiment to Disney, Wargaming said, “From a company perspective, we’re focusing a large majority of activities on events focused on our players and community."

Disney and Wargaming join EA and Activision in its E3 plans. EA has plans to host offsite public play events during the show while Activision will be present to show games like the new Call of Duty, but won't have a dedicate space on the show floor like it has in years past.

Our Take
As games focus more on providing elongated services as opposed to giant one-off experiences, I bet we will see this more and more. E3 will likely still be a time of huge announcements and big news, but it seems it will be happening around the show, as opposed to in the show.
