UPDATE: Chrono Trigger And Final Fantasy VI [Not] Launching On PSN This Week

[UPDATE] It appears Sony got this one completely wrong.

On the official PlayStation Twitter feed, Sony backpedaled on its previous announcement.

"Yesterday, we incorrectly reported Final Fantasy VI & Chrono Trigger coming to PSN this Tuesday. They are not. We apologize for the error."

[Thanks, to reader Scott DeRuby for the tip.]

After separate rumors that Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI (III in the U.S.) were headed to PlayStation Network, the time has finally come.

Surprisingly, Square Enix is dropping these two SNES-era RPG titans on the very same day. The PSN store usually updates on Tuesday so we should see it then.

This news comes on the heels of Chrono Trigger's confirmation for both iOS and Android phones. There is no release date yet announced for those versions of the game.

  • I will be buying both
  • not me ive got both of these on my snes ds and wii

  • I already have Chrono Trigger on SNES, DS, and PS1... so I don't think I'll be getting it.  Got FF6 on SNES, GBA, and PS1 as well.  Nice to know it's out though!

  • Great to see these available on the PSN, now if only I did not have such a huge backlog of games to play

  • ignore reading this. Too late!
  • Awesome! I'll be buying these along with Resident Evil 4 HD, then. I need to play all 3 of those and never have.
  • Ugh, I already have both of these on the Wii. Bought VI a few weeks ago. It would've been nice to have 6-9 all on my PS3.
  • I already own anthology and chronicles.  Been playing both of these games on my PS2.  Awesome games.  They truly are.

  • If I didn't already own the PS1 versions of the games, I would jump at the chance to buy and download these.  Unless they have PSN exclusive content, I'll pass.

  • Chrono Trigger = best JRPG ever made. gonna get this just so i can replay it again and again and again...
  • I got them when they originally came out and have played them both many times. I still have them in working condition. Don't usually keep buying a game that I like just because it is on a new platform.
Looks like I am not the only one who thinks that too.
  • Hoooly shite, FF6, finally.. fantasied!

    -update-
    Ohhh, shite, FF6 .. just a fantasy.
  • Aaaaaaaamazing

  • This is a definite.
  • I don't care how many times I've purchased both of these games; I will be doing it again.

  • I did not play either of these games until this year, both are now among my favorites of all time 20 something years after they originally came out. Buy these!

  • I love RPGs and Tuesday is going to just be heaven as I've not been fortunate enough to have played either of these gems yet. I smell a gaming marathon! ^_^

*looks at update* Or not. I guess it's just going to be me, Leon, and a large group of angry Spaniards.
  • Yes.

  • Already have Chrono Trigger (all three versions), but I have never played Final Fantasy VI past the intro.
I'm excited, since I absolutely adored what I played of the game.
Gotta get through IV, first, since I just got it.

Edit: Curse you, Sony! Darn you to heck!
  • Chrono trigger is a day one buy, but I might put off Final Fantasy VI, I like the games but I have enough on my plate with some of them being FFIX and BOFIV.
