Gameloft Copycat Strikes Again; World Of Warcraft Ripped Off

That headline may seem harsh. I don't mean to suggest that Gameloft only ever rips off other studios' hard work, but I can just go ahead and let the trailer for its latest game do the suggesting for me.

Joystiq brings word of the mobile-focused developer's latest title, an MMO named Order & Chaos Online. Do you like fighting in stylized, colorful fantasy settings? Do you like taking part in the endless battle between night elves and orcs? Are you seriously not already subscribed to World of Warcraft? Be honest.

Cynical jabs aside, the idea of fitting a fairly competent-looking MMORPG onto the iPad, iPod Touch, and iPhone is potentially impressive. I'd consider checking it out when Gameloft releases Order & Chaos Online later this year, but...I'll probably just keep playing WoW. Enjoy the trailer!

  • How can you call this a ripoff? The players' names were in a totally different font than the one WoW uses.
  • Not interested....

  • I thought you were kidding. That looks like they just ported WoW over onto the iPad...This is madness!
  • NO. I WILL NOT LOOK FOR YOU ON FACEBOOK TWITTER YOUR BLOG OR YOUTUBE CHANNEL, GOOD DAY SIR.
  • I might get it when it launches. Should be alot of fun for a handheld.

  • I think, that although it is a 'clone,' it is fair game - I mean, is it wrong for a developer dedicated to the mobile platform to copy what a PC / console dedicated developer cloned from someone else? Is that really the argument here? I patiently (and somewhat anxiously) await similar articles sarcastically chastising Activision / Blizzard for their blatant mimicry and totally sooooo passe approach to 'creative' endeavors. Mimicry is the name of the game - it's cheap, easy, and you can justify inflated price structures and subscription fees based on false reports from game "like" it. Fluff gossip this is, news this is not.
  • ....that's funny, I'm not reminded of WoW at all when watching this trailer....
  • I'm seriously not subscribed to World of Warcraft. Well, at least not anymore. :)

  • Hmmm seems like i have seen this somewhere?

  • I think a better name should have just been "Alliance and Horde".

Still, I plan to get an Ipod Touch 4 at some point, so I might be checking out the Gameloft library.

And it's not like any other MMOs haven't ripped off WoW, has anyone played the F2P MMO Runes of Magic? Huge rippoff of WoW, it's not bad for a free MMO though.

Might be one of the best free MMOs actually.
  • i wonder if they will port this to the psp or the NGP when it comes out? looks great!

  • This can't be real...

  • Can I port my lvl 85 disc/holy priest over or do I need to start at level 1?

  • Jeez, why is it that Gameloft always gets away with ripping other games off?
  • /snore

  • It looks almost exactly like WoW. But if this is on iPhones, that's a pretty impressive feat. There's no telling how it'll play until it releases, though.

  • A MMO (*cough* that looks exactly like World of Warcraft *cough*) on the ipad, ipod touch, and iphone? Imppressive. This might be a pretty good MMO. Time will tell.
"Never lose faith my friends, NEVER!"
  • I for one do not own such tablets and therefor will not be playing this game.

  • Wow, Blizzard's next expansion isn't looking very good. It seems like a huge step backwards from Cataclysm. What kind of name is Order and Chaos for an expansion and why is Gameloft helping develop it?
  • I don't know why these guys even try.  Surely they aren't making money?
