Reader Discussion: What's Your Favorite Console Redesign?

by Suriel Vazquez on Sep 10, 2016 at 11:41 AM

With the hubbub over the PlayStation 4 Pro's unveiling, the poor PlayStation 4 Slim got left out in the cold. But it's not an awful-looking console, and it $300 dollars, it's still a pretty good deal.

It's hard to know where the PlayStation 4 Pro will end up in the pantheon on consoles (does it count as a Redesign, like the New 3DS, or is it its own thing?), but some of the most fondly-remembered consoles have come when the creators take a second (or third) shot of making a console work.

Take my favorite console redesign, the DS lite. It was way less bulky and awkward than the original, and had a pretty good look to it. The DSi is technically a better device in almost every way, but I'll remember few systems as fondly as I do my gold-colored Zelda DS lite.

So what's your favorite console redesign? Is it the Game Boy Advance SP? The slim PlayStation 3? The Sega 32x? Does that last one count? Let us know in the comments.
