Sony Announces PS4 Pro

by Kyle Hilliard on Sep 07, 2016 at 09:16 AM

Sony is in the process of expanding the details, but a new 4K console is on the way that will, "sit alongside and complement the current system."

According to Mark Cerny, the PlayStation 4 Pro will have more than double the power of the GPU, and will boost the clock rate of the CPU as well for higher framerates. The PS4 Pro will also boast a 1TB hard drive, and feature interoperability – meaning your game purchases from a standard PS4 should seamlessly carry over to the Pro. The console will also support 5GHz Wifi and will allow for 1080p streaming via Remote and Share Play.

The most noticeable improvement of the PS4 Pro is 4K compatibility, which Sony showed off with scenes from Insomniac’s Spider-Man, Rise of the Tomb Raider, For Honor, and Watch Dogs 2. The PS4 Pro also supports High Dynamic Range technology, which enhances the range of colors in a game’s visuals.Sony showed off several HDR-compatible games as well, including Days Gone, Uncharted 4, and Infamous First Light. The latter of those two games are examples of the PS4 Pro’s “forward compatibility,” which patches in visual enhancements to games that are already out. Sony says that even players who don’t own a 4K television can expect better visuals thanks to the PS4 Pro’s additional GPU power.
