Call Of Duty: Ghosts PC System Specs Toned Down A Bit, Now Requires 40GB Installation

by Mike Futter on Oct 25, 2013 at 09:15 AM

At the beginning of October, we reported on the Call of Duty: Ghosts system specs. Of note was the hard drive requirement (50GB) and a minimum Nvidia GTX 550 GPU. Both of those have been scaled down.

Infinity Ward was able to reduce the installation size by 20 percent, meaning you'll only need 40GB on your hard drive. You can also get away with an Nvidia GTS 450 (the AMD GPU requirement has not changed). Here are the complete specs:

  • OS: Windows 7 64-Bit / Windows 8 64-Bit
  • CPU: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E8200 2.66 GHZ / AMD Phenom™ X3 8750 2.4 GHZ or better
  • Memory: 6GB RAM
  • Hard Disk Space: 40GB
  • Video: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTS 450 / ATI® Radeon™ HD 5870 or better
  • Sound: DirectX compatible sound card
  • DirectX®: DirectX® 11
  • Internet: Broadband Internet connection for Steam and Online Multiplayer.

You'll still need 6GB of RAM, and it looks like memory requirements are creeping upward as we approach next-generation consoles. The installation size is still significant, but console users won't be fairing any better, as Killzone: Shadow Fall on PlayStation 4 is reported to require 40GB, and images have surfaced of Call of Duty: Ghosts on PS4 requiring 50GB.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is out on November 5, for Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are due out alongside those consoles next month.

Our Take
My first PC, a 386, had an 80MB hard drive. It's amazing to me how far games have come since the late-1980s. The installation sizes for upcoming games are truly massive, even for those sporting 500GB-1 TB hard drives. I dread to think of what we'll be faced with in a year, once next-generation consoles are more regularly used for primary development.
