Pokémon Shiny Gengar And The Mythical Diancie Can Be Yours Free In October
Pokémon fans have a lot of reasons to be excited this fall. In case the release of Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby in November aren’t enough, a new expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card game is coming, and the digital version is soon to arrive on iOS devices.
To celebrate, The Pokémon Company has announced a giveaway for two free, special Pokémon. First up is a shiny version of Gengar. From October 13 through 26, Pokémon X and Y players can get a code card at GameStop (Disclaimer: GameStop is Game Informer’s parent company). This Gengar comes with a Gengarite Mega Stone, so you can evolve it into a Shiny Mega Gengar in battle.
From October 27 through November 16, you’ll be able to get a card for a mythical Pokémon, Diancie. Once you have one of the new Sapphire and Ruby remakes, you’ll be able to transfer Diancie in from X or Y, find the Diancite Mega Stone, and evolve it in battle.
On October 13, you’ll also be able to pick up an early two-pack of boosters from the upcoming Pokémon TCG XY Phantom Forces expansion. Each booster holds 10 cards. The new expansion, which releases widely on November 5, is also the first time Diancie will appear in the TCG.
Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby will be out on November 21 for 3DS and 2DS.

I spent a little time recently working through the tutorial for the Pokémon TCG on PC, and it was a nice reminder how well this game works. I’m looking forward to the iOS release, and it may even motivate me to start buying paper cards (since packs and theme decks come with codes for the online version).
