Steve Jobs Resigns As CEO Of Apple

by Phil Kollar on Aug 24, 2011 at 01:40 PM

Longtime Apple CEO and face of the popular company Steve Jobs has resigned today, accepting a new position as a chairman.

MSNBC reports that Jobs resigned today after 14 years as head of the company and months of medical leave. COO Tim Cook is replacing Jobs in the CEO position. Jobs released a brief statement about his resignation:

"I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come."

It's unclear how the leadership shift will affect Apple in the short-term, but the company has at the very least lost an outspoken and much-loved cheerleader for the brand.
