EA Reveals Special Edition of Dante's Inferno...The Book

by Phil Kollar on Jan 11, 2010 at 12:35 PM

Anyone who knows the teensiest bit about Inferno, the classic epic poem by Dante Alighieri, already understands that EA's upcoming Dante's Inferno game is only lightly based on the source material. That said, EA seems comfortable with continuing to raise comparisons. They've now announced that they are teaming up with Random House to release a special videogame-influenced edition of the book.

In addition to the poem itself, this new paperback edition of Inferno will include art from the game on the cover (see below), an introduction by the game's producer, Jonathan Knight, and 16 pages of full-color art detailing how the stuff described in the poem was adapted into a videogame. Knight commented on the upcoming release:

"We are so grateful to have the opportunity to work with Random House on this project. Through the creative process of developing this game, we have grown quite close to the literary works of Dante Alighieri. It is his vision that we are adapting for this new media, and new audience. The game is a celebration of Dante, and we hope gamers will be encouraged to go beyond the game and explore the classic text that has inspired us so deeply."

Would you like to read up on the inspiration behind the game before its February 9 release? The new edition of Inferno will hit bookshelves on January 19. We'll try to snag a copy and let you know if EA replaced all of the walking with bloodshed in this edition.
