Namco Bandai announced today that Tales of the Abyss will be released for the 3DS in North America on February 14, 2012. If you just can’t wait that long, they’ve also released a new batch of screenshots to help tide you over.

Tales of the Abyss originally appeared on the PlayStation 2 and tells the story of Luke fon Fabre, a young man who sets out on a grand adventure where he “struggles to learn of friendship, sacrifice, duty and of choice.” Also, he saves the world.

The 3DS port includes a tweaked battle system and (naturally) full 3D support. Check out the screens below to see how the game looks on Nintendo’s new portable.

    Sweet. I never actually got to complete this on PS2 so I'm glad I'll have a chance to finish the rest of the story. This and Symphonia are the best Tales games!

    I already played through The Abyss on PS2, but it was still a great game and it's a good thing more people will be able to enjoy it now. But I really hope they bring Xillia to the U.S., if this sells well maybe they may consider it! :D

    I'm more interested in knowing a release date for Tales of Graces f since that one hasn't been released in the west already. Couldn't care less about this since I have the original.

    meh. Wouldn't even consider picking this up if there were more good games for the 3DS, but I am almost done with Ocarina of Time..... THEN WHAT?!?! It will just turn into a PSP and sit on a shelf gathering dust for a year.

    At first i was like..."Oh great...another Tales game...Whoopie". Then i saw that its coming out for the 3DS...Now i'm like Hell Yea! Buying that! whoop whoop!

    Still very excited. I own the Ps2 version but I can't wait to play this one. Never finished the PS2 one but what I played I loved. This will be my Valentine's Day gift to myself.

    Never got a chance to play this on the PS2 so I'm glad it's coming out, definitely a day-1 buy for me.  The US needs more Tales games.

    "Tales of Symphonia" on Gamecube was easily one of my top 5 favorite games on the system, by the way, loved that game so much.
