The lights are on
Nintendo has revealed a new stage for Super Smash Bros., which is set in one of gaming's most familiar environments. Are you ready to knock the stuffing out of your friends in the Mushroom Kingdom?
The level's official title is Mushroom Kingdom U, which is a reference to it being based particularly on New Super Mario Bros. U. It looks pleasant enough, but game director Masahiro Sakurai says that its placid appearance hides a wold in turmoil. Or something like that.
"When Kamek casts a spell, the stage transforms drastically!" he wrote in the Miiverse reveal. "That said, this is not what you would call a moving stage…"
As you can see in the shot below, the central platform remains, while the others disappear. Jets of water take their place, including one with a lovely spiked critter. If past Smash games have taught us anything, those geysers will rise and fall until you're ready to land on one, at which point it'll vanish and leave you plummeting into the abyss. We'll be able to see for ourselves in just a week. Nintendo says this stage will be one of the playable levels at E3 and select Best Buy locations.
The 3DS version of the game is set to arrive this summer, while the Wii U version will be coming in the winter. For more details on the game, take a look at the previously announced character, Ike.

Sold on a Wii U
maybe next they will reveal the release date? or we can hope.
Looks very nice!
Wow, what a revolutionary reveal
This stage seemed rather dull when I first saw it, but the fact it changes forms instantaneously without scrolling sounds intriguing. It sounds like multiplayer matches on this stage could get especially chaotic.
It's still kind of weird seeing Mario, Sonic, AND Mega Man in the same game like this.........in an awesome way though. lol.
The Mushroom Kingdom stage from Brawl was bad because it moved, this one looks way better.
I thought this was going to be the stupid moving one again...glad to know it isn't.
Can't wait to play this game with my friends ^^
OOOOO. Looks cool.
A Mario stage in Super Smash BROS? Slow news day...
It looks like it's ripped straight from NSMBU. Which makes sense, since both NSMBU and SSB for Wii U are both on the same platform. :P
