Villager And Trainer Shown Off For Super Smash Bros. 3DS

The Wii Fit Trainer and the Animal Crossing Villager fighters from the new Super Smash Bros. were shown in their 3DS forms today.

The image of the duo appeared on the official Super Smash Bros. website as today's daily image. It's still unclear exactly how the Wii U and 3DS versions of the games will interact, which characters will be shared, and if certain characters will only appear in a single version.

Update: It has been stated by Nintendo that the character roster for both the 3DS and Wii U games should be identical, but series director Masahiro Sakurai did tell Kotaku, "We're forced into the situation where we may need to reduce some characters to a certain degree, but we're really working hard in order to include as many characters as possible." Hopefully the two games ultimately have the same character list, but it seems like there's a chance that they may not.

  • Is it just me or are these characters really worth caring about?
  • I still want to hear something solid from Sakurai about how the two versions are going to interact. All we've gotten so far is "there's going to be some connectivity." The rumors are going to keep swirling and turn into a tornado of lofty expectations, and it'll probably turn out to be something we expected in the first place.

Kind of like the secret messages in Pikmin 3...
  • I hate the fact they included the trainer. The Mr Game & Watch at least was an interesting nod to the history. Didn't know Nintendo owned it before that.

  • who's next?

  • This is going to be sweet! I wonder if the 3D will make the game experience even more awesome.
  • I know the Wii U version will be "better" in terms of graphics and controls, but I'm super excited about this version (mostly because I don't own a Wii U). I seriously hope Nintendo takes its time with it to make sure it lives up to Super Smash's legacy of quality. SF4 3D proved that 2D fighters can excel on the small screen.

  • Interesting best great Super Smash Bros vs PlayStation All-Star Battle Royale XD
