Sonic Lost World

New Enemies And New Moves Shown In First Trailer

Sonic has had a rocky past with some less-than-awesome titles making appearances in the last few years. Could the newly announced Sonic Lost World turn the franchise around? Take a look at the new gameplay revealed in this trailer and judge for yourself.

Sega announced that Sonic Lost World will be coming to Nintendo Wii U and 3DS later this year along with a trailer and screenshots, available below.

Sonic is pitted against six new villains recruited by the nefarious Dr. Eggman. However, the plot thickens when The Deadly Six revolt against Eggman, forcing him and Sonic into an unlikely partnership to stop them. The Color Powers from Sonic Colors make a return, along with new parkour abilities like wall-running. Both the 3DS and Wii U versions feature competitive multiplayer, though details haven't been revealed yet. Wii U owners can use the Gamepad's touchscreen and tilt functions to use Sonic's Color Powers. 3DS players can look forward to 3D visuals and exclusive stages for the handheld.

Are you considering giving Sonic Lost World a try? Or are you burned out on the franchise? Chime in and tell us why or why not in the comments.

  • This seems similar to Super Mario 3D Land as it looks like it uses the 2d sonic formula in a 3d format. Also it looks like Super Mario Galaxy. Can't be for sure though until I see more gameplay. I'm intrigued.

  • I just got back from playing Sonic 06 (awful, awful game. I'll have a review up soon, probably by next Friday), and it looks like they can actually get this game right. The camera angles and Sonic's speed actually look somehwat bearable.
  • I might actually consider getting this.

  • The gameplay doesn't look bad, but why the hell can't we get a good true 2D sonic game, why do developers like Sega and Capcom not listen to their fans. The antagonists look awful and generic this time around too.
  • There is more information about this game on the web... it has a ton of potential and is one of the few sonic games that has ever had my attention. Apparently, if you are holding the run button, you can automatically bypass certain obstacles. No more running into a tiny ledge and stopping! There is also a new control scheme that allows the player to control sonic's speed. Combined with the pleasant visuals and pretty cool looking level design, this may turn sonic around.

  • Looks like a mix of Sonic X-Treme and Super Mario Galaxy!

  • Hmm. Looks like it might actually play nicely.

I was hoping for more synth-funk style BGM like the original titles, but until I'm head developer, no game will ever be perfect. I mean who knows, maybe there's some Sonic 1 or 2 style tunes in there somewhere.

  • This looks REALLY good.  Don't screw it up, Sega.  I believe in you.

  • Sonic's strategy for defeating the big bad bullies:

    Run away really fast.

  • While it clearly evokes Super Mario Galaxy, ain't no problem with that. Galaxy is one of the most brilliant games of all time; and that core design of having different planetoids with their own gravity could play host to seemingly an endless number of playspaces and unique game mechanics. If Sonic Lost Worlds can capture any of that - and it looks like it's going to - than this game will be another quality Sonic game to toss onto the pile of recent awesome ones like Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors.

Oddly enough though, it looks way less impressive than Generations. The assets looks simpler and the lighting looks flatter. Heck, if Sonic Colors was higher res, it would also look better than this. Here's hoping that's just the first "Zone" or whatever, and the game is saving the eye candy for later.

Also odd: the game recalls Sonic X-treme a little bit. These physically impossible playspaces that switch from 2D to 3D and are mapped around spheres? That's... kinda what Sega Technical Institute was trying to accomplish with their ill-fated Sega Saturn Sonic game all those years ago. You stick a fisheye lens on this games' camera and it'd be like looking at Sonic X-treme 2!

The music sucks in this trailer though. I hope Sonic Team brings back guys like Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 2) or Naofumi Hataya (Nights into Dreams, Burning Rangers) to score this thing. And Crush 40 to sing another hairmetal-ish 80's Rock theme for the game. Screw the haters; those themes are awesome :)
  • Is anyone thinking about the Sonic X-treme game (that one on Saturn that never came out) just from watching this trailer?
  • It looks both pleasant to look at and exciting to play, and that's how Sonic should be so I am interested in this.

  • I love you GI and this game looks great but seriously your video player is a piece of trash and those Turtle Beach ads are ruining the site. Freezing, frame-rate issues and lag are in abundance here. It's about the gamers not the money
  • "Sonic Unleashed ,  Colors,  Generations"   were amazing.

Sure  "UNLEASHED" had the "Wear-Hog" stages, but it certainly wouldn't have been as bad, if it wasn't for the damn jazz music playing every time you got in to a fight.  Besides that, the gameplay was great all around, and the SONIC stages were the best out of the entire series.  You truly felt like Sonic the Hedgehog, the hedgehog that could go hundreds of miles per hours.

Colors - It had some annoying platforming segments, but the game looked beautiful, and the gameplay was fresh and great.

Generations -  Took  the best and some of the worst from Sonic's history and improved upon everything.  One of the best Sonic games of all time.

"The Lost World" -  This looks to be another great Sonic game in the making; mixing up the look and gameplay of Sonic and then taking in some Super Mario Galaxy elements.  I cannot wait to see more of this game!

  • Sure, as soon as a good sonic game comes out it's on the worst of the consoles.

  • I def intend to play this one. it looks like a sonic "spin" hehe get it >.< on Super Mario Galaxy. but sonic plus parkour does look like a neat mix that makes sense. I just hope its not touch screen gimmick heavy that would be a deal breaker.

  • This looks very promising. Hope this is the one to bring Sonic out of the dumps.

  • It looks great, I just hope you can play as Tails lol

  • looks very promising. It may make me buy a wii u. If it ends up playing like the last Sonic.

  • I should keep an eye on this title and hope I have the money for it when I get a Wii U(eventually).
