The lights are on
At this morning's Nintendo Direct, worldwide president Saturo Iwata announced that the next game in the Sonic the Hedgehog, subtitled Lost World, will be coming exclusively to Wii U and 3DS. This is made possible through a new partnership with Sega.
More information on the title, which was described as an action platformer, will be available before E3. Additionally, Sega titles will be coming to the 3DS virtual console soon.

Good job, Sega and Nintendo!!!
Action platformer makes me think Sonic Adventure. I'm not sure we need another 3D Sonic just yet. It could be good, but... I mean... It's Sonic...
Sonic has been making some good strides lately, although Sonic 4 Episode 2 was a misstep for me. Looking forward to this, and for the love of God, if you're going to include any Sonic friends into this, make sure it's only Tails and Knuckles. No more *** Charmy Bee!
Sonic Generations was a step in the right direction but it's going to take Sega a long time to erase all of the bad Sonic games from my memory.
Yes! Sonic Lost World is coming to the 3DS and Wii U! I am so going to buy this on the Wii U after it launches! I love Sonic games! Sega, please release some more information on this at E3 2013!
Well, time for another game to approach with cautious optimism.
