Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric

The Blue Hedgehog And His Friends Face Threats Both New And Familiar

We already knew Sonic's next adventure would see the return of stalwart allies like Tails and Amy while also introducing new characters, including a new friend in Sticks, and the series' villains will also get the same treatment. Sega released a new trailer at Gamescom today introducing Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric's titular antagonist, as well as teasing an appearance by Metal Sonic.

As you may have imagined, Dr. Eggman is up to his old tricks in this trailer, but things get a bit hairy for Sonic and pals once they stumble upon the reawakened Lyric, a mechanically augmented snake who seeks to destroy all organic life. Our heroes also encounter a giant robot sandworm known as the Driller.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric for Wii U hits shelves on November 18, and the 3DS entry, Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, arrives November 11. For more, check out the screenshot gallery below and read our hands-on preview from San Diego Comic-Con.

  • Please don't suck, please be a good Sonic game, I still have hope!!!
  • Mod
Sonic's voice actor sounds like he's just given up on everythig.
  • Sonic games almost always get a demo on Eshop so I will be (hopefully) trying the demo of this game. I wanna see how it is before I buy it.

  • *Guile's theme plays*

  • The best thing about GI is that I know if Tim Turi likes this game, it'll be a fun game to play. Watching him play in replays, and listening to him comment on games, I think I have a good sense of what he likes/doesn't like, and how he plays. He's very good at describing how he connects with games. So here's hoping. Because Sonic really could use a shot in the arm. It wouldn't be right for him to fade away.
  • So getting this on my birthday

  • METAL SONIC!!!!! :D

  • What's the general consensus on this? I am not terribly optimistic about it, based on what I've heard from people who have played demos at trade shows.

Sanzaru is making the 3DS version though, and they rocked it with Sly 4, maybe that one will be good.

  • NOT. HALF. BAD. !.

  • I saw a lot of "story" and not much compelling new gameplay. I'll bite for the Saturday morning cartoon vibe. Never really grew out of that. Obviously the gameplay will be the kicker though, and I'm doubtful on that front.

  • Another interesting thing to note here is that Shadow was also confirmed for Sonic Boom...

And I thought I wouldn't see that Recolored Sonic clone again after his absence in Sonic Lost World. I guess I was wrong.

I look forward to the Wii U version on release day.
