The lights are on
If there's one thing that consuming countless hours of zombie-themed entertainment has taught us, it's that there's no such thing as a simple rescue. Even if your saviors are armed to the gills and have access to an impenetrable fortress, social collapse (or slate-wiping nukes) is just around the corner.
The latest trailer for Dead Island: Riptide is a perfect example of how things fall apart. If the flesh-eating ghouls don't get you, the government will. The clip's also a showcase for some of the new themes and gameplay elements, such as the increased importance put on water and boating. You aren't trying to bring a trophy back to your yachting club, though – you're just trying to band together with your allies to get off this horrible island once and for all. We'll see how that works out.

The game is due on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on April 23.

Give me a console version of DayZ. That's the zombie game I want.
So our plucky heroes end up in the middle of a zombie epidemic. Shady mercenary and corporate types are involved and seem to be responsible for it all. The survivors need to escape because the shady corporate types plan on blowing it all up from a distance to cover it all up.
Isn't this just a reformed Resident Evil plot?
I just could not get into the first game. Not sure why. I was so excited for it. I am willing to give this game a chance, but on a steam sale ;)
I hope they improve on the first's problems for everyone else's sake. I for one didn't have any issues besides a gun not being able to be fired.
I seriously can't wait for this one, it looks so good. My time spent on the first Dead Island was a jump kicking blast! Already have my collector's edition paid off, 23rd can't come soon enough.
Unlike some of my peers I thought the first game was a blast. Riptide does look a little too similar to the first one for me to get too excited, but nonetheless I will eventually play this after it gets released and it still looks solid.
Dead Island is my 3rd favorite game. This'll be great.
