The Games I Completed In 2014

by Andrew Reiner on Jan 06, 2015 at 09:39 AM

I probably shouldn't put such a strong focus on the act of finishing games, and should instead just focus on playing the games I want, for how long I want, but I'm addicted to the process, the drive, and the feeling of satisfaction that comes from adding another game to the list. Each year, I keep a running list of the games I complete, which includes a section for games I started but haven't finished, and another for games I need to play.

Although 2014 started great for me, and a hopeful bid to finish more than 48 games (the mark I hit in the previous two years), a little game called Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft derailed my efforts. For months, I carried my iPad around wherever I went, playing a few games of Hearthstone for lunch at work, and while I was outside "playing" with the dog, who I've lovingly named LADY HEARTHSTONE (yes, all caps).

The Hearthstone obsession wasn't the only problem that I ran into. Going into the final two months of the year, I sunk far too much time into Dragon Age: Inquisition's side content. Hearthstone is a wonderful game, but it didn't capture my imagination as much as Dragon Age did – it was my Game of the Year for 2014. My foolish side questing almost resulted in me not being able to add it to this list. I finished it on December 31 at 10:34 p.m.

Thanks to two wonderful games sucking up my time, I only managed to complete 45 games this year, my lowest total since I started tallying my numbers in 2011. One note I should make for full disclosure: I didn't finish Dark Souls II by myself. I played the game with a friend and we finished it together. We handed off the controller after each death. I highly recommend you try playing the game this way. It's a wonderful experience that somehow amps up the intensity more than is already there.

And let's keep our tradition rolling, GI readers. Please list your completed games list in the comments section below. I read every comment on every story I post. This is one of my favorite ones to read. Happy New Year and Happy Game Completion to all of you! Here are the games I finished:
