In 2011, I completed 70 games. The blog I wrote listed 69 games, but I managed to finish L.A. Noire on December 31 with just two hours left before ringing in the New Year.In 2012, my total is far lower than I expected it to be. I’m probably missing a few games, but I believe I finished 48 games last year. The birth of my first child obviously led to me having far less time to game. I also feel that 2012 didn’t have as many “must-play” titles that kept me up late into the night. There’s another factor at play here, too. Many of the games I play on iOS don’t have a defined conclusion. The same could be said of sports games like MLB 12: The Show, but winning the World Series or being awarded the American League MVP in Road to the Show are conclusions of sorts. Should games I obsessed over like Temple Run and Madcoaster be added to my list? I don’t think so, but they are definitely worth mentioning given how much of my time they consumed. The game I spent the most time with was Dragon’s Dogma. I played through it with a friend over the course of three months, and nearly completed a second playthrough by myself. That playthrough was completed on January 13, 2013.I got a huge kick out of seeing all of the games you completed in 2011, and once again extend an invitation to all of you to jot down the games you finished in 2012 in the comments section below. My List of Completed Games in 2012:Ace Combat: Assault HorizonAlan Wake’s American NightmareThe Amazing Spider-ManAngry Birds Star WarsAssassin’s Creed IIIBattleshipBorderlands 2Call of Duty: Black Ops IIDarksiders IIDishonoredDisney UniverseDragon’s Dogma (almost two complete playthroughs)The Elder Scrolls V: DragonbornFable: The JourneyFamily Guy: Back to the MultiverseFar Cry 3FezGhost Recon: Future SoldierHalo 4I am AliveHell Yeah!JourneyJurassic ParkKinect Star WarsLego Batman 2Lego Lord of the RingsLittle InfernoLollipop ChainsawLord of the Rings: War in the NorthMajor League Baseball 2K12Mass Effect 3Max Payne 3MLB 12: The ShowNew Super Mario Bros. My list is unimpressive compared to yours, but here it is anyway:
)Mass Effect 1 (my first playthrough)
)Mass Effect 2 (my second playthrough)
)Batman: Arkham City
)Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (writing was great, but the story had me chasing too many macguffins)
)Bully: Scholarship Edition (everyone says this game is short, but it took me a while to beat it)
)LA Noire
)Kirby's Epic Yarn (I got this game the year it came out. I have no idea why it took me so long to finish.)
)Assassin's Creed III (loved this game, but honestly the ending was a letdown.)
)Bastion (I was a bit underwhelmed with this one until the final hours, which will go down as one of the greatest video game endings ever.)
In retrospect, only one of these games came out in 2012. But I'm okay with that. If I'm diligent, maybe Mass Effect 3 and Dragon's Dogma (along w/ countless backlogged games of mine) will be on next year's list.
