Report: Nintendo Increases Switch Production By Two Million Units Per Month

by Elise Favis on Oct 07, 2017 at 01:39 PM

Nintendo is increasing its supply for the Nintendo Switch to two million units per month globally, according to a recent report from DigiTimesTo meet popular demand, Nintendo is expected to reach an annual shipment target of 20 million units this year.

Digitimes reports that this increase in supply is meant to help meet the high demand for the Nintendo Switch in Asia and to meet the company's target production numbers. The report brings up how even despite the Switch's record-breaking worldwide sales, it is in short supply in Japan and isn't available for purchase in Taiwan until 2018. The Nintendo Switch is also coming to China in 2018.

In July, it was reported that the Nintendo Switch had sold 4.7 million units, and it also became Nintendo's fastest-selling console only a month following its launch.

Our Take
This increase in supply comes at an opportune time with the holiday season approaching, and I'm sure Nintendo had that in mind. Nintendo has had difficulty meeting demand with its consoles in the past and with the Switch's relentless popularity, this increase should be beneficial.
