Switch Is Nintendo's Fastest-Selling Console

by Joe Juba on Apr 13, 2017 at 07:45 PM

Whether you attribute it to Nintendomania or just the fact the company produced more units to go around, an official press release from Nintendo confirms that the Switch is the fastest-selling console in the company's history.

The console released on March 3 (read our review), and over the course of the month, Nintendo says the system sold more than 906,000 units.

In the announcement, Nintendo acknowledges that even with so many units in the wild, the shipments are not meeting demand. The company also says that a full accounting of the system's current sales will be provided on April 27 as part of its fiscal-year earnings release.

Our Take
This is certainly an impressive feat,  especially when you consider how popular the Wii was surrounding its launch. It must be especially heartening for the people at Nintendo, considering the lackluster performance of its previous console, the Wii U (which you can hear us talk about on this week's podcast).
