Following its announcement of its 12 finalists for the 2017 induction class in March, the World Video Game Hall of Fame at The Strong Museum of Play has announced the four titles to be inducted this year. This year's class features a diverse group of games that includes Bungie's Halo: Combat Evolved, Nintendo's Donkey Kong, Game Freak's Pokémon Red/Green, and Capcom's Street Fighter II.

Each year, 12 titles are nominated before being whittled down to four inductees. This year's finalists that did not make the cut include Final Fantasy VII, Microsoft Windows Solitaire, Mortal Kombat, Myst, Portal, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, and Wii Sports.

Prior to this induction class, the World Video Game Hall of Fame included Doom, Grand Theft Auto III, The Legend of Zelda, The Oregon Trail, Pac-Man, Pong, The Sims, Sonic the Hedgehog, Space Invaders, Super Mario Bros., Tetris, and World of Warcraft.
