Splatoon 2 Release Date, New Game Mode Announced

by Manon Hume on Apr 12, 2017 at 05:35 PM

Fans of Nintendo's paint-based shooter had a chance to demo Splatoon 2 during last month's global testfire, and the game now has an official release date: Splatoon 2 will launch on July 21.

As opposed to previous trailers, the Nintendo Direct stream showed none of the familiar team battles and instead introduced a new game mode known as Salmon Run. This co-op firefight-type arena pits up to four players against enemy creatures that spread pollution. Known as Chum, players must defeat these foes and the more powerful Steelhead boss enemies to clean up the area and collect power eggs, with the hint of a mystery reward for participating in the game mode.

The trailer also announced the arrival of three Splatoon 2 amiibos. These new figures of Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and Inkling Squid will interact with the player after connected to the game, allowing players to customize the character and take photos to share.
