Minecraft Sales Now Top 100 Million

If you ever look at the monthly NPD report and wonder why Minecraft continues to pop up on the top 10 list, the latest sales figures might put that in context. Microsoft has released updated information, with Minecraft now having sold more than 100 million copies worldwide.

Since the start of this year, the company says that an average of 53,000 copies of the sandbox building game have been sold daily. Minecraft also boasts monthly usership of more than 40 million.

Along with the updated figures, Microsoft has released an infographic that breaks down where people are playing by territory. Minecraft was most recently released on Wii U, where players can visit a blocky version of Mushroom Kingdom with Mario-themed skins. You can see how that in looks in our Test Chamber.

Our Take
When Microsoft purchased Mojang, there was trepidation about Minecraft’s future. Instead, the company seems to be serving as a good steward, fostering a larger player base and bringing the title to new (non-Xbox) platforms.
