Test Chamber – The Coolest (And Most Disgusting) Secrets When Mario Meets Minecraft

by Kyle Hilliard on May 20, 2016 at 11:40 AM

Earlier this week, the Wii U version of Minecraft got a huge injection of free Mario content, and we decided to take a look at it.

This free pack adds 15 pieces of Super Mario music, item textures, 40 skins, and a giant pre-made world filled with all kinds of Mario stuff. Jeff Cork, Brian Shea, and I played around in the pre-made world, examining the assorted statues and reskinned enemies, and even dug underground to see what we could find.

The existence of this Nintendo content creates an already strange overlap of competing publishers and developers. Minecraft is a Microsoft property on a Nintendo platform, and now its filled with Nintendo content. It's an unlikely partnership that, as near as we can tell, seems to be benefiting all involved.

You can check out the video below for a highlight reel of everything we looked at. Minecraft and all its bonus Nintendo content is available now on Wii U. You can also check out our original Test Chamber of Minecraft Wii U, here.

Right now, Nintendo is at odds with players posting Minecraft Wii U videos featuring the Mario content, and 4J Studios who developed the consoles ports of the game has responded saying it should not be happening. You can find out more about that story here.
