Diablo II (Yes, II) Gets A New Update

by Jeff Cork on Mar 11, 2016 at 03:44 AM

Blizzard continues to work on Diablo III, adding new areas, loot, and silliness to the action-RPG. That doesn't mean the studio has forgotten what came before, as evidenced by a surprise update for an old favorite.

Diablo II has a new patch, bringing the game up to version 1.14a – nearly five years after the last update. This update doesn't add a whole lot, but it's important for one big reason: It's designed to make the game easier to play on contemporary hardware. If you're playing on Mac, it includes a new installer for OSX.

Additionally, Blizzard says it's working to detect and eliminate cheats and hacks for the game – important stuff, since there's a good chance the game will be seeing an influx of players again.

Our Take
This shows once again that Blizzard not only wants to make its fans happy, but it's willing to put in the hours to make that possible. I'm particularly interested to see what they mean when they characterize this patch as the beginning of a new journey, but that it doesn't end there.
