Reader Discussion: What's The Most Devastating Loss You've Suffered In A Strategy Game?

by Javy Gwaltney on Feb 06, 2016 at 07:00 AM

XCOM 2 is here! Lots of you are playing it! Lots of you are failing miserably! It's okay. That's part of that series' twisted fun factor. In fact, that's something I think can be applied to the strategy game genre as a whole: it's really good at making losing just as interesting and memorable as winning--and sometimes even more so!

I think the most humiliating loss I've ever had in a game was with Civilization IV, where I built up a technologically advanced society filled with elite soldiers and powerful weaponry...only to be taken out by a group of AI-controlled civilizations that hadn't advanced past the classical era. It only takes a handful of elephants to trump some tanks and take over New York apparently.

So what about you, reader? What tales of shame, tragedy, and hilarity from strategy games have you got for us? Share in the comments section below!
