First Steam Machines Available For Pre-Order Now

by Tim Turi on Jun 04, 2015 at 07:25 AM

Valve announced today that the first in its line of gaming-centric PCs, Steam Machines, will be available via pre-order by October 16.

Preordering your Steam Machine now, through retailers like GameStop (Disclaimer: GameStop is the parent company of Game Informer.), assures you'll receive your device on October 16, several weeks before the retail launch on November 10. The Steam Controller and and Steam Link streaming hardware are also available for pre-order, $49 each.

Valve has partnered with PC manufacturers Alienware and CyberPower for this first run of Steam Machines. Alienware's Steam Machines begin with pricing at $449.00, including a Steam Controller. For more details on the Alienware offerings, visit this Steam page.

Our Take
I'm curious to see the Steam Machines up and running when they're finally released. I'm still hesitant about the SteamOS' reliance on Linux, which doesn't have a track record of supporting many triple-A releases.
