New PBS Space Time Video Questions Super Mario World’s Gravity And Mario’s Humanity

by Justin Mikos on Feb 16, 2015 at 09:58 AM

PBS’ Space Time video series explores the possibilities of science fiction in relation to astrophysics. The host, Gabe Perez-Giz, is an actual astrophysicist who studies black holes and in the latest episode he turns his attention to the plausibility behind Super Mario World’s gravity.

In the video, Perez-Giz begins by calculating the force of gravity in Super Mario World using mathematics. His results leads him to some startling discoveries about the nature of Mario’s world and poses some troubling questions about Mario himself and what would happen should he ever visit (real) Earth. The entertaining and informative video which you can watch below is definitely worth a watch.

We recently checked out Mario's most intense exploration of gravity yet in the Super Mario Galaxy 2 Replay and have also explored his initial adventures into space in our Replay of the original Super Mario Galaxy. You can decide for yourself about the nature of Mario's universe and the plumber himself in the comments below.
