Nintendo Teams With Loot Crate For An Amiibo Delivery Service

by Mike Futter on Nov 10, 2014 at 03:26 AM

Nintendo announced this morning that it has teamed with Loot Crate to delivery 10 pre-selected Amiibo figures by mail. Five of the figures have been named, with the remaining half to be revealed later.

Mario, Yoshi, Pikachu, Donkey Kong, and Fox are included in the offer, which is not yet priced. The 10 figures will be delivered in three batches throughout the holiday season.

Subscription pricing and timing are not yet available. The Loot Crate website currently offers the ability to sign up to receive notification when details are divulged.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is out on November 21, along with the first wave of 12 Amiibo figures. Another set of six figurines will be out before the end of this year.

Our Take
Without knowing the pricing or the full lineup, it's hard to know whether there is value here. What I can say is that Nintendo is making a bold move outsourcing this. Loot Crate has a rapidly growing consumer base and the means to market this to them.

Especially if Loot Crate does something a little special for these bundles, this will broaden the audience of people aware of and interested in Amiibo. Even without the details, it's easy to see the wisdom of the strategy.
